At BodySmart, prenatal and postnatal care is one of our specialties. Our Postnatal Physiotherapy classes are conducted by one of our certified Physiotherapists with further training in Womens Health. With a strong emphasis on women’s health, we specialise in aiding your recovery following pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. These sessions combine Postnatal Pilates routines, Physiotherapy techniques, and the use of Reformers, all tailored to address the specific needs of a woman’s body after giving birth. Guided by a qualified Physiotherapist, these classes are designed to promote strength and facilitate recovery while ensuring your safety post-pregnancy, taking into account factors like muscle separation, pelvic floor health, and the physical strains of caring for a newborn.
What are the benefits of Post-Natal Pilates?
Our Post-Natal Pilates Classes aim to:
- Improve Pelvic Floor Strength: Pilates aids in strengthening the muscles of the pelvic floor, reducing instances of stress incontinence, and providing vital support to the pelvis, thereby easing pelvic and lower back discomfort.
- Relieve Pelvic Pain: Pilates strengthens the pelvic floor and core muscles, offering stability to the pelvis and minimising excessive movements that can cause discomfort.
- Encourage Relaxation: Devoting time to yourself in a Pilates session can promote relaxation and mindfulness, contributing to improved mental well-being by fostering adaptive responses to stress. With a strong focus on mind-body connection, these classes will focus your mind reducing any external ‘noise’.
- Improve Diastasis Recti: Pilates focuses on tailored rehabilitation and strength-building exercises following pregnancy to facilitate the closure of the abdominal muscle separation, enabling effective support for the abdomen, pelvis, and lower back.
- Enhance posture: Pilates strengthens the stabilising muscles of the pelvis, trunk and shoulder girdle, helping to improve postural endurance and spinal mobility.
